1 year of style- Colin edition
For the past couple of years I have had the pleasure of being Colin’s hairstylist. He is seriously one of the coolest kids I’ve ever met. Colin is all about the salon experience! He always has a great description of how he wants his hair to look. I love that he likes to switch it up and try new styles. Currently it’s basketball season so he is wearing his hair short with lots of texture on top. I can’t believe how much he has grown up in the past year. Colin is a rad dude!
Hello long luxurious hair!
Yesterday I assisted my friend katey McKee on a full head of hot heads extensions! My client Heidi has fine hair that she always wants to be long. Problem is that it never grows much past her shoulders. Hot heads are considered to be tape extensions. They are gentle on the hair and pretty quick to be put in. They last 6-8 weeks. Heidi wanted to be a warmer blonde. First I toned her hair to match the extensions. Then Katey put in all the extensions and explained the whole process. I’m obsessed with the results! I have never seen Heidi so happy!
"Flawless" long bob
I had the best time working with kitty! She was ready to get rid of her long hair in exchange for a more mature and manageable style. Kitty was inspired by Alexa Chung’s easy textured Bob. I love how it turned out! To style I used label m smoothing cream and twisted rows of her hair working from bottom to top, following the shape of the head. Kitty looks flawless!
Last haircut for the beautiful ari before she goes to grad school!
I am happy to announce that as of wednesday july 2nd I will be working out of Glama Rama Oakland! Glama Rama is located on Telegraph at Alcatraz please visit the website and take a virtual tour of the new place! http://glamarama.com/oakland
As a thank you for moving with me I will be offering $10 off your first visit to all existing clients! I’m not yet set up for online booking but that should be up soon. For the time being please call Glama Rama at 510-655-4526. You will find a few differences in terminology when you book your haircuts. Haircuts are now scheduled and priced based on length. A short cut refers to over the ears (ears showing), long cuts and super long cuts (below the chest). Kids and tween cuts now also have a separate category. I will also be using the in house color which is especially good news if you like something a bit brighter and edgier. Punk rock color is now also available for booking!
I can’t wait for you all to see the new place! It’s a bit easier to find parking. street parking is pretty easy to find on alcatraz or north (pay attention to street sweeping signs). parking on telegraph is metered. we are a short walk from ashby bart, buses run up and down telegraph. Hope to see you all soon and please message me with any questions. xo
New to town
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and doing Kara’s hair. Kara is a super talented photographer and all around great girl. She was looking to keep most of her length and learn how to better work with her waves. I added some layers to enhance her natural texture and showed her a trick I use to spin her curls into a shape she likes. If you need a photographer check out her website!
Recently my friend lark asked me if I could teach her a few updo’s she could do on her own that would give her a bit of height. Lark is a very talented artist and was receiving an award in New York. She wanted something fancier than her everyday hair that she felt comfortable re creating. Her dress had a high collar so she wanted her hair off her neck. It was so much fun to play with Lark’s hair. I hear she has replaced her go to ponytail with a messy bun sometimes in her day to day life. It makes me happy to know I have taught someone another styling option that makes them feel good about how their hair looks.
Over being blonde
Taylor was a first time client who had been doing her own bleach touch up’s and was ready for a major change. This was definitely more of a tint back rather than the all over color appointment she was scheduled for. Taylor really liked my hair, but my hair is a couple shades darker than we took her. I told her we needed to be realistic about how dark we could go in the time we had available. After looking at some color swatches and her telling me she was afraid of her hair turning green we decided on a dark red violet based brown. 2 hours and 15 minutes later we were both pleased with the results. I think the darker hair really makes her eyes pop. I hope I get to see Taylor for her next touch up so we can go a little darker. It was super fun working with her!
Kim is always a delight to work with! He likes to experiment with different styles. This time we went old school gentleman. I’m obsessed with his hair color! Kim is the ultimate silver fox!
I call this the unicorn cut!
Katherine had been cutting her own hair for quite some time. Overall she was happy with the shape but described it as too bulky. I decided to basically cut a Mohawk while still keeping the sides but only in front of the ear. I described it a a combo of a Chelsea cut and a Mohawk but most people are not familiar with those references. It’s a super punk cut that not everyone can pull off. I’m so excited Katherine let me play with her fun hair.
