HAIR SEWING: ASYMMETRICAL BOB

yesterday i was lucky enough to attend a styling class taught by tim & kelly from Kevin Murphy. they were at the salon to teach us some hair sewing techniques & what are the best Kevin Murphy products to use to obtain our desired style.  My friend Yadira was lovely enough to wake up bright and early to be my model for the class. we decided the look were were going to create would be an asymmetrical bob.

I started out by shampooing yadira’s hair with maxi wash & conditioning with luxury rinse. Next i sprayed in some staying alive to detangle & nourish, body builder at the roots for lift & full again through mid-shaft & ends to give a full texture. once the hair was dry i sectioned her hair into 9 sections. i started in the back & ended on the top (although now that i have done it i think i would start at the top, sides, then back to get more volume) wrapping each section around the outside a small curling iron or styling wand, then as you release the iron hold the curl in your hand & wrap it around a roller to cool. this ensures that the roots have more curl than the ends. once the curlers have cooled undo the set & shake out the curls. i took a D shaped section on top of yadira’s hair & clipped it up out of the way. this is the hair that will be your bob. then i started on her left temple and rolled her hair following her hairline around the nape of her neck and ending in a flat bun above her right ear. i sewed a few places around her hairline so the roll would stay in place. then i took the top section & shaped the curls how i wanted them. lots of session spray & teasing involved. i was super happy with how it turned out & how easy it was to create!

thank you to Daniel JauJou for setting up the class & letting us use the salon. Tim & kelly from Kevin Murphy for teaching a great class & new techniques. Last but certainly not least my beautiful sweet model Yadira for having a great head of hair & making class fun.

FIRST BIG BOY HAIRCUT!!!

This is Quinn, my favorite 3 year old on the planet! Q’s parents recently asked me if i could give him his first real haircut.  I was super stoked! He didn’t mind getting his haircut and sat so patiently while the hair tickled his face.  Everyone was happy with the result, even if it did make him look like a  big boy ;) just wanted to share pictures of this handsome little man. enjoy!

LET IT ALL GO

i recently had the pleasure of cutting off most of the lovely miss Alice’s hair. this was my second appointment with her. the first appointment was a basic trim, adding layers to give her long hair more shape. the second as you can see was a major makeover. alice is a dog trainer and was looking to have a low maintenance short style. she really liked emma watson’s pixie cut. it was such a fun transformation for me to make. alice was super stoked as was i :) if you live in the east bay and are in need of and excellent dog trainer Alice is your girl! you can check her out at www.choosepositivetraining.com

HELLA SHORT, HELLA CUTE

This is the lovely ms. Ami. she came to me with pretty short hair already but doesn’t like anything touching her ears. I was inspired by Ginnifer Goodwin’s recent super short cut. My favorite thing about this cut is that she still has a lot of styling options on top. I love this cut on Ami! so stylish & functional! enjoy!

NEW DAD CUT
a couple weeks ago my friend matt stopped in for a trim. had to get him cleaned up for his babyshower that happened last week. so many of my clients have been welcoming new additions to their family! it’s so exciting to see people going through such huge changes in their lives & getting to see pictures of their adorable new babies. matt & i have been friends since high school & i am crazy excited for him & his beautiful wife to become new parents. i’m sure this will be one of the last pictures of matt looking well rested ;)

OOOHHH SHINY!

The lovely miss marian stopped by for a touch up and a trim. she is so pretty & sweet & just needed a little clean up. sometimes i like to show a subtle change can still make a big difference.

CRISS & SARAH

criss & sarah came in to see me about a month ago. it had been a while since they had gotten their hair cut & like to have really edgy cuts. criss likes to wear her hair very short. when she walked in she had a grown out mohawk. she was liking the length on top, but this sides & back were too long for her. although she wanted the sides short she likes having a couple pieces to twirl. we decided to keep the hair in front of her ears just long enough to twirl & she also wanted a baby tail.  sarah’s hair was also feeling way too long for her although she liked having the front a bit longer. she wanted the back to be short enough to flip out & also wanted to get some shorter bangs. it was really fun working with these girls & getting to do cuts that not everyone is going to ask for. i think each of their cuts suits their personalities & will be easy for them to maintain.

DON’T BE SCARED…

Sometimes being a hairstylist can be scary. about a month ago i was just about to meet my second to the last client on a busy saturday, i had no idea what i was in for. miss amelia is a beautiful girl who came in with her hair in a ponytail & a computer in hand. she told me she wanted a pixie cut & not to be scared. i have included a before picture of amelia so you can see what i saw. she described her hair as being the texture of a brillo pad (not too far of an exaggeration). she proceeded to show me pictures of halle berry & a few other short cuts that she liked. amelia told me that she had her hair in a pixie cut years ago & was ready for a major change. i was definitely excited although a bit nervous. it’s a daunting thing to meet someone & 15 minutes after your first meeting you cut over a foot off of their hair. an hour and a half later the transformation was complete. amelia loved it as did i. i’m so glad that she let me make such a drastic change. she reminds me of a dark haired mia farrow.

TYLER IS HOT

this is Tyler. he is a super awesome dude & an active cyclist. he has been wanting to grow his hair a bit but still needs to keep it short enough to not look terrible after a long bike ride. we decides to keep the sides super short but grow out the top with lots of texture & a tiny tail so he has something to play with. super stylish & low maintenance. win/win

MOMS & BABES

i have recently had a couple of my clients start bringing their kids to get haircuts with me. it is so fun meeting my clients kids. they are some really cute & funny characters. i am also very impressed at how still the kids are able to sit while i’m cutting. they move alot less than some of my adult clients! thanks michelle & theresa for bringing in your little cuties to see me!
